Massive underpayment for a solid NHL player. Massive. Seriously, and mid rounder and a late rounder for an everyday NHL'er? That's crazy.

Also, like the fact that you are using a photo of an Anaheim player on this blog....foreshadowing perhaps??

EDIT: and then you changed the photo.

As I posted early this morning on your Sens blog, this seemed like a no-brainer for the rumoured price.

It is even a cheaper price when you factor in that half his remaining salary this year will get paid by Edmonton.

Nice move by Murray.

It's funny that everyone balked at the idea of Edmonton getting a 2nd for Hemsky, now that he gets moved for a 3rd and 5th it's a steal of a deal.

NHL player for picks later than 2nd rounders is a steal every single time it happens.

Sounds like he's dressing tonight in CGY too.. Do we immediately put him to Spezza's wing?

Michalek - Spezza - Hemsky
MacArthur- Turris - Ryan
Hoffman - Zibanejad - Condra
Greening - Smith - Neil

Agreed. No one could tell you what a good trade for Edmonton would look like, because they'd be blinded by the Oilers logo

Of course!!!

We keep talking about adding a D man but we have Boro-cop coming next year on a 1 way deal too, add Phillips here for 2 more and we have a full on cluster #$%? here on the back end. I don't even know what the answer is anymore but it's bad.

Really? Any guy putting up more than 25 points a year in the NHL is worth a 2nd round pick. Let alone a guy capable of 70.

I would have given a 2nd for Hemsky right now too, it's the Oilers brass asking a 1st round pick and a good prospect a few years ago that made them the laughing stock of the league.

I'm surprised they couldn't at least get a 5th rounder from buffalo for Conacher

Does he wear 89 in buffalo? Mogilny number retired?

Hemmer's been getting trashed all week by bloggers and insiders alike. The notion that we'd get a 2nd for him was considered classic Oilers lowballing antics.

Quick note regarding the quality of draft picks. Since 2000, about 150 3rd rounders have played at least one NHL game. That's about 11 per year, so you've got about a 33% chance of drafting a player in the 3rd round that will play at least one game. Impact players from the 3rd round seem to happen around 1 or 2 times per year on average, and that's only if you define guys like Clutterbuck as 'impactful'...so that's around a 3% to 5% chance of that guy being as good as Hemsky...I'll take those odds.

Not sure why our old buddy Don Brennan thought this might be 'overpayment'. Yeesh.

I think probably losing consistently for a near decade. made them the laughing stock of the league. The league =/= posters on hockeybuzz.

It would probably have to include a defenseman going back for Ehrhoff. Maybe Prince + Wiercioch?
